Mom has been a member of ACFA, (American Cat Fanciers Association) since 1982, and served as the South Central Regional Director for two terms, from 1997-2000. While acting as the SC Director she wrote the original outline for, the "ACFA Cattery of Distinction" program. A cattery that receives this certification has undergone an in-house inspection of the cattery to ensure clean, healthy and safe living conditions for all the feline residents. 1982 also saw her cattery join the list of registered catteries in CFA (Cat Fancier's Association).
In 1985, fulfilling the desire to have cat shows closer to home, she was a co-founder of the "Central Indiana Purrfect Cat Fanciers Club" in Lafayette, Indiana.
In 1994 all of our lives changed drastically! She qualified for and obtained her ACFA license to be a judge at cat shows. For the past 14 years we have all been an active presence and voice in the show ring; Mom, both as a judge and an exhibitor; us as the 'exhibited'. Unfortunately recent medical issues have curtailed her ability to travel frequently, thus limiting her active participation in the show ring. Our whiskers remain crossed that sometime in the near future we will be able to rejoin the show community. It is part of Mom's life (one that she sorely misses), and of course we enjoy all the extra attention that we get at the shows!
Mom was awarded the ACFA South Central Region "Breeder of the Year" award in 2001, which means that Kennickey Kats had more cats receiving Regional Year End awards than any other cattery in the Region.
Kennickey Kats cattery breeds and raises only Abyssinian cats specializing in the ruddy and red colors. Mom prefers to keep our cattery small so she can focus on producing the best kittens possible. While she always breeds to gain show quality kittens for future good breeding stock, not all of us can be destined for the show ring. She makes sure that all of her 'kids' go to homes where they will be loved and cared for, and she makes sure that any kitten sold as a pet will be neutered. That's part of the purchase contract.
All of Mom's kittens whether destined for the show ring or as pets, have begun their lives in a home environment with as much human contact as possible. They are sold with a guarantee of their good health when they leave this home, and come with all their upper respiratory vaccinations complete for their age.
