Kennickey Kats Cattery was first established in 1982. The purchase of that first Abyssinian kitten began a love affair with this slightly irascible breed that has continued for over 25 years.
Breeding pedigreed cats should only have one purpose; to produce kittens/cats that meet the 'show standard' and are exemplary examples of the breed. These cats will then be exhibited at shows, and will eventually enter into breeding programs. Unfortunately, all kittens do not meet the strict requirements necessary for this show/breeder life and those that do not, are sold to select individuals who want to share their hearts with a special four-legged person.

Highly intelligent and active cats, Abyssinians are intuitively alert, [just try catching one when it is time to administer some foul tasting medicine - they just seem to know it is THAT TIME and inconveniently disappear to their favorite hiding places]. They are constantly aware of their surroundings. They always try to be helpful when you are attempting to complete some household task or chore. Being underfoot is their way of constantly reminding you of their presence and their demand for constant acknowledgment. The original author of "Curiosity Killed the Cat" no doubt had an Abyssinian in mind at the time. While there are no definitive records existing to show how many Abys have actually been caught exhibiting this trait, I personally have little doubt, that at least several of their proclaimed 9 lives have been expended from sticking noses or paws into areas not designed for noses or paws, let alone persistent kitty cats.
All of the above traits are overridden by the one you will come to know and that will be a major part of your life. Once you have earned the trust and love of an Abyssinian you will have gained a new family member. They are always aware of your need for the attention they grant you, and freely give their time from an otherwise busy day to supply it. You will find that when you are sick with a cold or the flu, or simply a bit down in the dumps and needing some personal attention, your Aby(s) will be there, swamping you with their warm cuddly bodies and radiating their obvious affection and concern.
Kennickey Kats is affiliated with the "American Cat Fanciers Association" (ACFA), and the "Cat Fanciers Association" (CFA).
